Maremma: the cradle of the Etruscans

From Podere il Leccio you can start to discover the surrounding area rich in cultural tours and historical places of extraordinary beauty. They are easily overtake the beautiful city of Pisa with its Leaning Tower, Siena with its magnificent Duomo and Piazza del Campo, finally Florence, one of the most beautiful art cities of Italy.

For those interested in history and archeology, near the farm, there are the remains of the beautiful Etruscan and Roman city of Roselle and Cosa, two very interesting archaeological sites; the ancient city of Populonia, where guests can visit the splendid Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia; Vetulonia, with its Archaeological Museum Isidoro Falchi.

Very fascinating are the monumental complex of San Galgano, with its surreal Abbey and the mysterious sword stuck in the stone or the Abbey of Sant’Antimo the Romanesque period: according to legendary tradition, the abbey was erected by order of Charles Great, he’d founded in 781, returning from Rome, along the Francigena road.

A few kilometers from the farmhouse the old port of Castiglione della Pescaia, which extends on a spur of Mount Petriccio and, with its towers, one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Maremma. The majestic walls with eleven towers, three portals and the fifteenth century castle have kept their medieval charm. Not far away also the old town of Grosseto, completely enclosed within a fortified city wall still entirely feasible. Here you can visit the Archaeological Museum and Art of Maremma and the Museum of Natural History of the Maremma. We recommend a visit to the beautiful old town of Massa Marittima, where special attention deserves the Source of abundance and the Tree of Fertility, interesting also the archeological museum, the museum of the mine and the old mill. To visit the seaside town of Orbetello with the characteristic Spanish windmill lowered into the lagoon.
